Musclecar Monday inna Ed Roth Stylie

The Surfite

Ahh yes the Surfite, how could anyone forget? Huge fans of Big Daddy Ed Roth here at the Tyde.

Musclecar? Not really, but it's Ed Roth so who cares?

I think the surfboard is a Hansen, anyone?

Just imagine yourself showing up at your favorite spot in this.

Actually, imagine showing up at Silver Strand, Makaha, or Indicators, Palos Verdes with this; an amusing thought.

So cool even Revell made a kit.

Granite State Ruin and Redemption

Ruin:
The forecasts were spot on for a change. The trouble is everyone and their jackass brothers read them as well. The wall was packed with idiots. It was head high plus on the sets with diminishing offshore winds. Damn near perfect.
IMG_5197.JPG
But it sucked. Why? People backpaddling each other, party waves, people on the inside and not caring. Folks, it's a big day with punchy waves, so USE YOUR %$#*ING HEADS!
IMG_5188.JPG
Instead, 2 poor sods were hospitalized with nasty surfboard bonks on the head. Even HFD ambulances. Too many close calls for comfort. It was time to bail.

I ran into my bud Greg who had just arrived, and after watching from the wall, descibed the situation as "mayhem". Good call by
Clammer. Now I've seen it more crowded, but never with such jackassery.

Redemption:
Up the road was a bit smaller but far less crowded. It was all crispy lefts and fast rights. There were 3 of us out. This place can real good, kinda far-from-the-madding-crowd thing too. The change in the overall mood was huge.

the Polaroid & Me

450.jpg
$10 plus shipping on ebay, and you can order the film from B&H. These are early results, and I'm looking forward to more fun.
polaroid-4.jpg
You pop the picture, then pull the film out the side of the back. About 6 layers of various sheets, and you peel them apart to get the picture, but only after you've waited for the right time, and that all depends on the air temp.

Fun stuff

Musclecar Monday - Paris style

C'était un Rendezvous is the creation of the French filmmaker Claude Lelouch in 1976. Using a Mercedes 450SEL early one August morning, Lelouch attached a camera to the bumper of the car and sped through the streets of Paris. (The sounds of a Ferrari 275 GTB were added in post-production.)

He gave the driver a set route from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur, which is straight through the heart of Paris. The driver is still unknown to this day, because Lelouch was never able to obtain a permit to close the streets. The driver, who Lelouch told officials was an F1 racer, went over the speed limit and blew off many red lights.

When this film was first shown, Lelouch was arrested, and because of this, the footage has spent many years underground before it began to resurface on DVD a few years ago.

Chills and Spills

IMG_5131.JPG
A mini nor'easter kicked up a good swell, there were some massive cleanup sets. You were either on the shoulder of this wave or falling through a trap door. An 11 foot tide.
IMG_5136.JPG
Hye Tyde boast alert >> my last ride was a set wave, an honest 7' on the drop. The Farbo can handle some juice. I swear I could feel the fin flex and snap back after the turn. That buzz outweighed the fact that I only had 3 waves in an amount of time I'm too embarrassed to disclose. << end boast alert.
IMG_5123.JPG
The 5mm hooded wetsuit, boots, and gloves were a good call this morning, temps in the 40's and stiff wind. A sample of what's coming.

Other spots were still blown out.

Kookboxx

Kookboxx is Joel Tudor’s latest brand. I don't know what the deal was with Joel Tudor Surfboards, but who cares at this point, Kookboxxes are so bitchin'.

Aren't these cool?

OK – very cool, because as you know the whole idea of continuing the development of designs which were abandoned all too early is where it's at. And let’s face it, Joel Tudor knows his shit, and with Stu Kenson the product's gonna rock.

Kookboxx also has very dope shortboards.

5 longboards are enough. Anyone want to buy a vintage Hansen?

October small waves

PA040015b.jpg
The past 2 weekends have been quite flat - here's the "best of" for the past 8 days. At least it was crisp & clean, and as always, better'n nuthin'.

Free and easy junior. This kid was so smooth at 12 years old. Not fair, but he was a really nice kid, not like the little punks I've grown used to. That's him in the top picture, getting a nice five. He was doing this all morning.

I shoot all my water pics with an Olympus Stylus 1050SW (below). It's small & waterproof, but the shutter lag sucks. Trying to judge when to shoot with all this lag and I end up missing the money shot, or shooting a perfect picture of my knee. Excuses, excuses.

Grand Prix of Gloucester

IMG_4994.JPG
The annual Cyclocross race gets bigger and more big time every year.
IMG_5022.JPG
You now when an event s well run when you feel that you're "where the action's at". More importantly, I always leave these things wanting to get into 'cross. Maybe it's time to stop dreamin' and start doin', Cyclocross is very very cool.

Nothing like a Gloucester Cat

IMG_4964.JPG
After seeing the 3rd mouse in the house last week, it was time to be proactive. This place needs a set of watchful kitty eyes at all times.

Growing up we always had cats and even a dog or two. The cats always came from the Cape Ann Animal Aid. Visit their site: www.capeannanimalaid.com

Her name is Sheila, she loves attention, dry cat food, string, and the laser pointer. She's very vocal, sounding off at first light. I'm not a cat person, but she's good company.

I'll keep you posted on the mousekill tally.
