Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

DSC00084
And to think I alomost blew this off - nawhh, it's 1:30, "either the wind will be on it or it will be flat". Au contraine mon frere.

But it started out with waves but wonky shape. Danielle, a friend & her friend Hannah (who rips) decided to wait an hour or so for the tide to fill in. Good call!DSC00083

OK, not Hawaiian style but my home break has been overrun by the most obnoxious wave hog, all set, thanks. But up here, it's all good. And I gotta say, the French Canadians aren't all that bad, they keep to themselves on the crappy peaks, havin' a grand 'ole time - hootin' & a-hollerin', and then spendin' their dough like drunken sailors afterwards. Also those French girls - are all Quebecoises total knockouts?

Speaking of home, it's been another gorgeous Summer around here. I hope it's a gorgeous Summer everywhere.

Fresh Loggin' Down Under

WELCOME. from Gabe Roxburgh on Vimeo.

If only I could surf like this!

Just when cross-process look is getting a touch tired for photos, I see it in video and love it. What kind of video editing software is out there that can do this without breaking the bank, and my hard drive? Anyone? Needs to shoot more video.

July so far

No big message here just what I've seen around here the past few weeks. So I'm going to show some pics, and a caption below.
_MG_1281Every year we have the Blackburn Challenge. No matter what's going on in life, my heart jumps when I see folks on about every human-powered craft known doing a clockwise lap around Cape Ann. Individuals and teams, it's an annual new story about people. I'm stoked that despite it all things like this still thrive. I can't wait to see how the film rolls turn out.

Jon and Karen on a Grand Banks dory. Made me miss Crossfit Cape Ann.

Supping around Gloucester Harbor - An International 210. Stop to shoot on a SUP, and you go from a deck pic (above) to a keel pic (below) without even knowing it.

Look it has a hatchet fin!
DSC00031
Sneaking a few tiny ones in the 93° heat? Not even close.

Everyone loves the sunshine.

Go easy, Commander McHale - Ernest Borgnine 1917-2012

Such versatile actor, his parts ranged from Commander McHale to Satan himself!

After a 10 year stint in the real Navy during WWII, his mother encouraged him to pursue a more glamorous profession and suggested that his personality would be well suited for the stage. He surprised his mother by taking the suggestion to heart, although his father was far from enthusiastic. In 2011, Borgnine remembered:

"She said, `You always like getting in front of people and making a fool of yourself, why don't you give it a try?' I was sitting at the kitchen table and I saw this light. No kidding. It sounds crazy. And 10 years later, I had Grace Kelly handing me an Academy Award."

He was masterful as a complete heel as Sgt. "Fatso" Judson in From Here to Eternity, across from Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra. God, was he evil!

Fair winds and following seas McHale, thanks for entertaining us for 6 decades!
