July Summer

fun enough waves and epic thunderstorms - hell even Revere had a full on tornado.

I'll let good bud Patrick be Mr. July - I was totally in his way and blew his ride snapping pics.

Newport Surf Fest IV: Water Bros knocks it out of the park

Amazing time Tribal gathering of skaters, shapers, surfers, rodders, sailors, and everything in between. I was super honored to have two of my babies under the big tent - there's my Phillips - she was a real showgirl and basked in all the attention. Legit ramp with skate folk coming as far away as Ohio to attend - not to mention Tony Alva himself. Sid Abruzzi and Water Brothers knew how to put it all together for everyone to enjoy Newport takes stock in its surfing heritage, I don't go down enough.

Bastille Day Musclecar Monday

A little short on muscle today, but big on style points and innovation:

The Citroën DS is an automobile which was manufactured and marketed by the French company Citroën from 1955 to 1975. Styled by Italian sculptor and industrial designer Flaminio Bertoni and the French aeronautical engineer André Lefèbvre, the DS was known for its aerodynamic futuristic body design and innovative technology, including a hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension.

Citroen DS part duex - #grooviness The DS set new standards in automobile ride quality, handling, and braking. Citroën sold nearly 1.5 million D-series during the model's 20-year (!!) production run. The DS came in third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, recognizing the world's most influential auto designs.

What was really cool was the directional headlamps. Behind each glass cover lens, the inboard high-beam headlamp swivels by up to 80° as the driver steers, throwing the beam along the driver's intended path rather than uselessly across the curved road. The outboard low-beam headlamps are self-leveling in response to pitching caused by acceleration and braking. Sounds gimmicky I know but they really worked well.

surfing the storm's edge

DSC01311 It passed well north, this was a biggie - with funnel cloud sightings in southern New Hampshire.  While folks up there were battening down, we were pretty awestruck by the towering thunderheads.  The waves were waist high and most welcome as well in the 86° offshores. The Phillips Strawberry Shortcut

DSC01301
I got this in Camden Maine a few summers ago - everything about it was so bright and fresh. And the clear WAVE set fin is intact.

DSC01303 A few tidbits about it from the most excellent longboard.net: - It was a pretty popular model, shaped in Rhode Island in 1968 and at 8'6" was a shortboard. The pattern on the deck was airbrush through someone's mother's table cloth.  Incense & peppermint.  The coral tint lights up like stained glass in the sun.

Direct from the genius....

"The deck art was done with large lace table cloths and a vintage form of air sprays, rechargable/refillable paint cans.I shaped over 2,000 of the Strawberry Short Cuts, the name was from an Eastern Airlines story on rapid delivery of fresh strawberries and of course, the hippie imagery and names of the era, i:e, Strawberry Alarm clock"

Anyway I'm bringing this down to the Newport Surf Fest this Saturday - wonderin' what I'll find out.

The Hansen will the representing too.
