Malcolm McLaren 1946 – 2010

Malcolm McLaren died last week, and it’s important here at the Tyde to write up a little blurb about the man.

He was a performer, impresario, self-publicist and former manager of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls.

In May 1977, the band released "God Save the Queen" during the week of Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. The band released their album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols in October 1977.

In 1983, McLaren released Duck Rock, an album which mixed up influences from Africa and the Americas, including hip-hop. The album proved to be highly influential in bringing hip-hop to a wider audience in the UK. Two of the singles from the album ("Buffalo Gals" and "Double Dutch")

Early Spring Action

Surprise peelers rock. Noisy donkeys who hoot after their own rides & think back-paddling is OK don't. Spring's here and so are the morons.

But cheer up, spuds: Here's Guy of Dutch Oven giving this drop in punk the Dutch Oven treatment - well done & burnt to a crisp. Revenge is a meal best served burnt.

Lastly, Cape Ann's swell, Cape Ann's great, I heart Cape Ann, OK, but it's the last place for a single 40-something, period. Boston's bright lights & hustle-bustle are always a welcome break.

Anxiety about whetever was the order of business all afternoon, but I had this corner all to myself, hooked into some solo tricky lefts. Honestly, it was more fun than it looks here. I feel fine now.

No Transfer

That’s the name of my big brother Mike’s photography exhibit now showing at the New England School of Photography (NESOP), where he’s an instructor.

Here's the deal - this is a collection of street shots taken from MBTA buses all hours of the day, all months of the year. Typically he's a 35mm b&w guy, but this was his first color show, revolutionary for him.

Nesop's such a cool little place, and the work these kids are putting out is supper. The gallery is just perfect - not too big not too small - nicely done everyone!
