the sound of changing times, the music of a better day

1980, I was 15. Now kids my age had music that was ours and no one else's.

It was the sound of changing times, the music of a better day.

The eighties had begun, and there were nine more years to go!

Fresh Fest '17 – Final Season

Irma was a deadly storm, it will take years for Florida to recover; the Caribbean, even longer. So while folks in New England were enjoying classic late summer hurricane groundswell, hundreds of miles to the south others were struggling for their lives. Stoked? Well, up to a point. People are hurting and need help, and All the stoke and good vibrations don't amount to a hill of beans when there's looting in Tortola for example. Why does it take disasters for us to realize what's really important in life's journey?

It started off small enough Thursday evening.
DSC01060.jpg DSC01055.jpg DSC01064.jpg But by Friday the groundswell from Irma had filled in.

Musclecar Monday: Final Season – Chaparral Cars

Straight Outta Midland, TX – Headed by Jim Hall, Chaparrals pioneered wings, automatic -ish transmissions (2 speeds) , and even vacuums – check out the Chaparral 2j – "the sucker car", which was outrageous and so effective it was basically banned. Always a factor in any race, Chaparrals were crowd favorites both on both US and European circuits, and won many prestigious races. Their futuristic, rakish designs drew many admirers and inspired knockoffs. They were know in France as 'les belles américaines '.

Some pics and videos:
Chaparral 2J, Riverside 1970 - Vacuum kept this thoroughbred from flying off the track.  It was later banned

Chaparral 2F at the at the Nürburgring, Germany
At the Targa Florio - In charge on the winding Sicilian back roads.
