lightning strikes again!

Yet again, more evening glass-off smallness and fun. The clouds on the horizon were all lit up with lightning (my point & shoot won’t capture that, sorry), and the moon put a sparkle on the water – almost like a Molly Hatchet album cover (how dated am I?). But who can complain with water temps in the 70’s and friendlies in the lineup.

And lookee here! Finally something to cheer about! I’m on vacation next week and according to the “oh-so-accurate” Magic Seaweed, I’m in luck (or jinxed, given their track record).
Roll on, September!

le musclecar Monday: fraîches voitures françaises

Everyone hates on the French - quel dommage, it always baffled me. Folks there have been nice to me, I mean when aren't cab drivers and waiters in big cities rude? Arrogant?, un peu, peut-être, but that's a European thing, you know being from there gives one a better pot to piss in, etc. But lets accentuate the positive, always. The Frenchies don't always make cool cars, but when they do - ooh la la:

Peugeot 503 (above) more than a match for many a BMW, and anything out of the UK in its class.

Detective Lieutenant Columbo drove a super fresh Peugeot 403 convertible, or decapotable.

Citroën SM - powered by Maserati

Bugatti Royale (above) - only a Bugatti Royale with Cheese would be cooler

Ceci n'est pas une voiture française. But that's Françiose Hardy, she's French, and was one of the few things that revved up the 1966 film Grand Prix - skip it, friends. And isn't that a Peugeot 404 in the background? A French tank, fitting for a tank of a movie.

Citroën Traction-Avant - that means Front wheel drive - pretty advanced for the 1930's. This was the un-official car of the French resistance during WWII. See? Some good things come from our Gallic friends besides trains that run like clockwork, cool architecture, and gorgeous women.

Highly recommended!

I'll put Cape Ann sunsets belly to belly against anywhere, any day.

Camera misfire #2 - OK the waves are tiny but trunking it in New England? June-September: tops in my book. 777 - big waves or small, the board just wants to party.

Neil Alden Armstrong 1930-2012

Too sad for words.

Bike envy continued:

Heart drag bars!

Putting the pinstripes back in.

Sorry I left them out!

A huge concern lately is losing touch with the pinstriped, primer-black, drag-racin', hot rod cruisin', rockabilly "flames 'n dames" sensiblities that I try to embroider into this blog. When that happens a visit to Skratch's garage will always set things straight.

How to make a regular Bell helmet (and a bomb for that matter) amazing:
Pinstripers have names much like DJ's. Meet Skratch, one of the best in the business:

And of course, he does surfboards:

Lower Your Standards

And you'll always have fun one way or another.

That's Josh & Jared doing a surfing x roller derby thing. But was it the tide? The sandbar? Racing, seriously, relly fast across the face of the thigh high set waves (yeah, I know) plus a fun who-gives-a-shit mentality in the lineup made for bags o'fun.

Also - did you ever have one of those sessions here you're especially loose? These times are usually "breakthrough" sessions. Here it was no excerption - major, major, major breakthrough for yours truly last night, folks.

All I can say is hang loose and the sky's the limit! It's a satisfying rush - a rush fresher than ever.
DSC00131
But some thought the who-gives-a-shit mentality applied to their shit.

Weep not, fellow treehuggers, with a little help, the doritofish found the recycling.

Loads of 2-foot hero waves, but dudes, what's with the wetsuits? It's 83°!

Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover Animation

For my fellow science nerds & geeks out there - yup this is cool as hell.

It landed on Mars last night, and will be shooting video. I think stuff like this is far out.

Here's the full 11 min movie brought to you by NASA:
