The creek, the wall, and the secret spot
The Junod has been in my car since Tuesday night, getting me in the water 3 of the past 4 days. I already posted the results of Wednesday’s so-so session.
Unlike Bad Harbor, my favorite spot was empty, cleaner, but a touch smaller. Da creek: Always an easy choice, and always a good time.
New Hampshire Fun City.
Chest to head high, clean, sunny, 60° water 70° air. New Hampshire surf at it’s loggin’ best.
Secret Spot Surf Food:
This is the best place for Hampton post-surf grinds:
• Giant Acai Bowls -
• Quick & Delicious Stuffed Wraps & Salads -
• Caribbean Inspired Tacos & Burritos -
• Original South American Sandwiches -
• Hot Breakfast Burritos & Tacos

Here Come the Warm Jets --
-- of water.
The swell came earlier that predicted, it was here this morning. I was caught short, unprepared for the waist plus waves and light offshores. Damn it! By after work time, the swell built, but so did the onshores. It was a mess. Oh well, we’ll try again tomorrow.
The water is an incredible 64° (18°). That warmth is unheard of for July 17, let along June 17.

Summer
Happiness is having your favorite small wave spot all to yourself. Clean, clear, jazz the glass. The water is so warm and clear, in this sun, a shorty would have been fine.
Lastly, it was so good seeing younger artists appreciating some of the best light and landscapes on the planet. On the beach of my youth, I'm flattered. Cape Ann has long been a great spot for artists; the next generation is overdue. It's just an hour north of town folks, c'mon up.

David Carradine RIP
Go easy, Cane - I dug up my prized Kung Fu lunchbox you know, to reminisce.
I'm still haunted by one of his Grasshopper flashbacks. The blind monk made him walk a tightrope over a pool of churning acid, and over the skeletons of his 2 older bothers who failed the test.
Carradine came form an acting family, and was especially good as Cole Younger alongside 2 brothers (playing Jim & Bob Younger; Jesse James' right hand men) in the 1980 sleeper, The Long Riders. He hung with Gene Clark of the Byrds.

Star Trek - Best Summer Block Buster in Ages
It has a good story, Zoë Saldana as Lieutenant Uhura, interesting characters, great acting, good writing, and the coolest set designs - something very mid-60's mid century going on in a very subtle way. The roots of Kirk, Spock, flashbacks to their youths, issues growing up, etc. The effects raise the bar but are still subservient to the story, a good one at that. Amazing film, check it if you haven't yet.

Heart of Darkenss
"Droll thing life is--that mysterious arrangement of merciless logic for a futile purpose. The most you can hope from it is some knowledge of yourself--that comes too late--a crop of unextinguishable regrets."
Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
